The act of arresting and deporting a person simply for not having the proper documentation is an inhumane act in and of itself, but the sadism and unnecessary cruelty with which the United States Immigration Customs and Enforcement agency eagerly employs in their “work” is horrifying to behold.
Their most recent victim is Rosamaria Hernandez, a ten-year-old girl with cerebral palsy who was brought to the United States when she was three years old. ICE stopped her ambulance, followed the ambulance to the hospital, and waited for her to have surgery.
Once she was released from the hospital, the agents arrested her and took her to an internment camp for migrant children – not back to her parents, who are undocumented immigrants living in Laredo, Texas.
As if that wasn’t enough, Hernandez’s family told reporters that ICE agents lied to them and said the girl had been taken to a hospital in Mexico and not to Corpus Christi, where she actually was.
“I’m a mother. All I wanted was for her to get the surgery that she needed. It never crossed my mind that any of what is happening right now could happen. When you’re a mother, all you care about is your child’ said her mother, Felipa de la Cruz.
It goes without saying that obviously Rosamaria and her family posed no threat to our “national security” – a word that no longer has any meaning other than a catch-all excuse for the justification of soft ethnic cleansing and religious/ethnic/racial profiling on behalf of America’s increasingly oppressive police state.
It is beyond infuriating to see these monsters preying on small children and their families, wasting our tax dollars harassing and terrifying people of color for no reason other than a few words on a birth certificate.’
