Trump Just Issued A Major Boycott To the United Nations

With the Trump administration’s “America first, f*ck everybody else” policy as the operative principle, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced today that the Trump administration will withdraw from a United Nations-led Global Compact on Migration (GCM), according to an article on The Hill.

Tillerson blames the 2016 agreement on managing international migration for undermining the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. He stated that the Compact “contains a number of policy goals that are inconsistent with U.S. law and policy.”

“While we will continue to engage on a number of fronts at the United Nations, in this case, we simply cannot in good faith support a process that could undermine the sovereign right of the United States to enforce our immigration laws and secure our borders,” he continued. He emphasized that it “is the primary responsibility of sovereign states to help ensure that migration is safe, orderly, and legal.”

A UN spokesperson relayed the response of U.N. General Assembly President Miroslav Lajčák to Tillerson’s announcement, saying that he found the decision to “disengage” regrettable and that a strong multilateral approach is the key to addressing international migration issues.

“The role of the United States in this process is critical as it has historically and generously welcomed people from all across the globe and remains home to the largest number of international migrants in the world,” the spokesperson, Brenden Varma, said in a statement.

Using international dialogue as the method of finding mutually acceptable solutions to the world’s problems is the raison d’être of the United Nations, and Trump’s foolish ostrich-like response to global issues will work about as well as his proposed wall would prevent polluted air from flowing over the borders, in other words, not at all.

Pretending that America bears no responsibility for helping solve a migration issue that its unneeded wars in the Middle East — based on the lies of the last Republican administration — helped create, is morally bankrupt and offensive to the rest of the population with which we share this rapidly changing planet. It’s just another misguided and self-defeating policy emanating from the deranged mind of President Trump.

Add your name to millions demanding Congress take action on the President’s crimes. IMPEACH TRUMP & PENCE!
