Immediately after the unexpected presidential victory of reality television star Donald Trump, the right-wing media hate machine found itself self-facing a difficult, nigh existential dilemma.
Networks like Fox News built themselves into advertisement revenue juggernauts over the course of the Obama administration by peddling paranoia and bigoted fear to their misinformed audiences. Now, with a Republican in the White House, they found they could no longer rail against the executive branch.
So, rather than pivoting to offer legitimate criticism of the Trump administration, they doubled back and decided to continue running hit pieces on former Secretary of State and current private citizen Hillary Clinton.
They invented a parallel world in which Clinton was still politically relevant and took it to such an extreme that multiple conservative pundits have accidentally referred to “President Clinton” and the “Clinton administration” during their spittle-flecked, conspiracy theory-fueled rants.
It now turns out that the poison pumped out by Fox News and InfoWars has infected Trump’s base so much that some of them actually think Clinton is currently holding public office and deserves to be impeached.
In a new Jimmy Kimmel Live! clip one of his interviewers takes to the streets to ask random passersby if they think Hillary Clinton should be impeached. A disturbing number of them adamantly respond in the affirmative.
When pressed for reasons why Clinton should be impeached, none of them has a coherent answer. They ramble about Russia, emails, and other right-wing buzzwords, once again proving that the average Trump voter is deeply, deeply uninformed. These are the people that stole the White House from one of the most qualified people to ever run for office and gave it to an egomaniacal conman.
