After President Trump’s most disgusting display of inhumanity yet — when he said, “This is what your husband signed up for,” to Myeshia Johnson, the pregnant grieving widow of Green Beret La David T. Johnson — America responded with a wave of compassion.
5000 Role Models of Excellence, founded by Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) in 1993, set up a GoFundMe campaign for the educations of Johnson’s 2 children (and one on the way), with the hopes of raising $100,000.
Americans stepped up and raised more than $200,000 overnight, with the tally at $415,985 and counting, as of the writing of this article. The family has lifted the goal to $1 million.

Thank goodness the people of the United States have generosity of spirit, even though our president doesn’t.
Nothing can bring back Myeshia Johnson’s valiant husband and the father of her children, ages 2 and 6, but at least the family will have some financial support to aid them as they grieve and attempt to move forward with their lives.
The family lives in the tough Miami-Dade city of Miami Gardens, portrayed in Tarell Alvin McCraney’s Oscar-winning screenplay, “Moonlight.” Sgt. Johnson worked hard to rise up through the ranks of the Army to attain his elite position as a Green Beret Sergeant in the U.S. Special Forces, becoming a Role Model of Excellence, only to die in an ambush by Islamic extremists in Niger.
It took two weeks for the president to even mention the death of Johnson and three of his fellow Green Berets. Then, Trump lied, saying President Obama didn’t call the families of slain military.
Congresswoman Wilson, who was in the car with the widow when the president finally did call, shared with the press Trump’s unforgivable words, and added that a stunned Mrs. Johnson said after she hung up, “He couldn’t even remember my husband’s name.
Rather than convey humility and sensitivity, Trump lashed out against Rep. Wilson, taking to Twitter in his signature sophomoric style and accusing her of lying.
Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!

Johnson’s mother, however, confirmed the congresswoman’s account. “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Cowanda Jones-Johnson told the Washington Post.
President Trump has demonstrated an utter lack of human feeling in moments of national tragedy, especially when it comes to people of color. Witness his reaction to Puerto Rican hurricane victims versus his responses in Texas and Florida. Witness his calling neo-Nazis “very fine” people and NFL players protesting injustice “Sons of B****es.”
Just when we think this president’s disgraceful indecency can’t sink any lower, he outdoes himself with some new firework display of hatefulness.
He does not deserve to be Commander-in-Chief of our military. He is unfit to lead any nation, much less a great nation like ours.
