The Senate campaign for Republican Roy Moore is flaming out in apocalyptic fashion as accusations of pedophilia and sexual predation continue to pile up against him.
Last week, The Washington Post ran a story alleging that Moore molested a 14-year-old girl when he was 32 and pursued inappropriate relationships with three other teenage girls. Today, another woman came forward to accuse Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 15 and he was the District Attorney for her county.
Now, a new article from The New Yorker widens the portrait of Moore as a vile sexual predator. Reportedly, Roy Moore was banned from his local mall for repeatedly harassing teenage girls. While the mall does have a ban list, the archives don’t extend far back enough in time to prove whether Moore was indeed on the list several decades ago.
However, the New Yorker confirmed with over a dozen sources, including members of the local legal community as well as law enforcement that Moore was indeed banned.
“It started around 1979, I think. I know the ban was still in place when I got there,” Greg Legat, a former employee of the mall told The New Yorker. Legat recalls a police officer who worked as security at the mall telling him, “If you see Roy, let me know. He’s banned from the mall. If you see Moore here, tell me. I’ll take care of him.”
Jason Nelms, an I.T. worker who used to frequent the mall gave The New Yorker further confirmation of the ban. He recalls employees being told to keep an eye out to protect kids who liked to hang out at the mall.
“Anyway, when asked why they had to keep an eye outside, they said that some older guy had been trying to pick up younger girls. They didn’t go beyond that but one of the concession workers whispered to us later that it was Roy Moore he was talking about,” Nelms said.
“The general knowledge at the time when I moved here was that this guy is a lawyer cruising the mall for high-school dates,” a police officer told The New Yorker.
Another officer said, “I actually voted for Moore. I liked him at one time. But I’m basically disgusted now, to be honest with you. Some of the things he’s said recently, I’ve changed my tune completely about this guy.” He discussed Moore’s recent appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio show. “The thing about how he’s never dated anybody without their mother’s permission, that appalled me. That made me want to throw up. Why would you need someone’s permission to date somebody?” he asked, referring to Moore’s comments that he dated young girls but that he acquired parental permission first.
No doubt the Moore campaign will try to continue painting these allegations as a liberal smear campaign but no thinking person can look at all these accusations, from so many different people and honestly decide there’s no truth to the story. Roy Moore is clearly a sexual predator and has no business being in the United States Senate.
