Yesterday, Trump Jr. posted a photograph of himself and Ted Cruz on his Instagram. The president’s bumbling, incompetent son appeared holding a cake with President Obama’s face on it alongside the failed Republican presidential candidate.
Junior’s strange grimace was clearly intended to mock the slightly distorted depiction of our first black president in what can only be viewed as a petty, unprompted jab. Some interpreted the cake, modeled after Obama’s famous Hope campaign posters, as a racist caricature.
Trump Jr. tagged the Dallas restaurant Le Bilboquet as the location of the photograph. The two Republicans were there to celebrate a birthday party.
Now, Stephen Corseau, who runs La Bilboquet, is speaking out against the picture, reports GuideLive. In a lengthy post on his company’s Instagram Corseau said he was “shocked and appalled” by the picture, adding that the cookie didn’t come out of the La Bilboquet’s kitchen and that he shares the indignation that many have been voicing. Corseau said he and his employees feel saddened and betrayed by Trump Jr.
“Restaurant business is about creating a hospitable environment for all, a non-partisan, non-politicized, nondiscriminatory and respectful environment. The fact that guests decided to use our restaurant as a platform to promote, disrespect, and spread hatred goes against everything we stand for,” wrote Corseau.
He went on to explain that he is French and his wife is Mexican and that they believe in love and tolerance. Their customers include Democrats, Independents, and Republicans and it’s crucial to him that all feel welcome.
“I am truly sorry that such distasteful events happened at our venue and that these circumstances brought me to write this statement today. It reminds us that a divide still exists and that we have to keep promoting our core values, so that events like these don’t happen again. While I am disappointed and hurt, I still think it is possible,” Corseau concluded.
Once again, Trump Jr. has proven himself to be a mindless partisan hack, and this time an innocent businessman was hurt. The president’s son created needless bad press for Corseau’s restaurant and demonstrated how little he cares about other people. He owes the restaurant, its customers, and President Obama an apology.
Perhaps if his father’s approval weren’t so dismally low, and if he himself wasn’t personally at risk from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation he wouldn’t feel the need to resort to such lowbrow stunts. He’s desperate to distract from the implosion of the Trump White House and just like his father has resorted to racist showboating to serve his own purposes.
