A Republican Congressman Just Announced He Will Resign Amidst Allegations Of “Inappropriate Behavior”

Shoes are dropping everywhere you look.  Today, former comedian and Minnesota Senator Al Franken resigned from the Senate after a slew of allegations linking him to inappropriate touching.  His resignation has ignited an angry chorus of voices demanding that President Trump and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who are credibly accused of doing much worse, also resign.

On the very same day, Arizona Republican Congressman Trent Franks just announced he will be resign from the U.S. House of Representatives amid allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior.

Kasie Hunt of MSNBC got the scoop just moments ago and told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Daily that the arch-right Freedom Caucus member is stepping down with more details to come.

A Republican source told The Daily Beast today: “There’s been rumors swirling around him for years, at least in 2012 . . . And if this turns out to be true there won’t be that many people who are surprised.”

Franks had planned to run for the Senate in 2012 and these new allegations suggest why he ultimately decided not to.  Rumors suggest he may have been mulling an upcoming run for the more deliberative of the two congressional houses.

However, his impending resignation suggest he is putting his political hopes on hold, in light of the emerging #MeToo movement that is giving no more ground on the mistreatment of women.

Rep. Franks stepping down for his apparent sexual misconduct comes as a sweet dose of poetic justice for liberals outraged at his harsh anti-choice stance.  Just yesterday, he voted for the NRA’s vile Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act that expands gun rights, the very first gun bill since the Las Vegas and Texas massacres.

His fellow Republicans circled around him in prayer today before his impending announcement.

May their “thoughts and prayers” do just as much for Rep. Franks as they have for our nation’s innumerable victims of gun violence and sexual misconduct.

Trent Franks just resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives effective January 31, 2018 amid allegations of “inappropriate behavior.”  In a statement this evening, he said:

I have recently learned that the Ethics Committee is reviewing an inquiry regarding my discussion of surrogacy with two previous female subordinates, making each feel uncomfortable . . . I deeply regret that my discussion of this option and process in the workplace caused distress.
