A Puerto Rican-Born Congresswoman Just Shredded Ben Carson Over Botched Puerto Rico Response

Trump finally revealed how little he cares about Puerto Rico’s hurricane crisis today when he took to Twitter and threatened to end federal aid to the ravaged island territory.

He blamed them for mismanaging their debt, insinuating that the hurricane was as bad as it was because of underlying issues with Puerto Rico. Much of the island is still without water and electricity, and in dire need of more relief, but Trump decided to pin these problems on preexisting infrastructure weaknesses.  It was a gross act of victim blaming with an undeniable racist underpinning.

Unwilling to let his vile tweets go unanswered, Representative Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) slammed the president at a hearing of the House Financial Service committee, reports ShareBlue.  The issue hits close to home for Velazquez as a Puerto Rican-American, and she tore into the administrations surrogate at the hearing, Secretary of HUD Ben Carson.

“I just would like for you to let him know how shameful all the tweets that he put out this morning, how offended and insulted I am as an American citizen,” Velazquez said. She then went on an extended attack worth seeing.
