Mueller Just Responded to Trump’s Lawyers And Their Freak-Out Over Damning Email Evidence

Special Counsel Mueller has broken his long silence over the Trump Russia investigation to defend the integrity of the evidence gathering process on the eve of a high stakes meeting between Mueller and Trump’s legal team next week. Mueller’s spokesman confirmed obtaining GSA emails using “appropriate criminal process.”

A bombshell report yesterday revealed that Mueller used a routine administrative request to the General Services Administration (GSA) to lawfully acquire all public record emails from the Trump Transition which the agency held.

The Trump Transition Team’s lawyer promptly complained in a very public letter to Fox News (and the authorities) about the GSA’s release of the emails leading to Mueller confirming Axios‘ story that important emails were obtained by investigators. The Post reports:

“When we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner’s consent or appropriate criminal process,” said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller’s office.

Special Counsel Mueller hired Peter Carr as a spokesman in May, but he’s only released two public statements since then and only one time about the details of the investigation whatsoever, that being the above statement.

Carr’s only prior statement concerned removing an FBI Agent for expressing personal opinions to a romantic partner.

The GSA must have only fulfilled Mueller’s response because they were legally obligated to do so since it is run by a Trump appointee.

Earlier this year, Donald Trump quashed a dispute with the GSA over the conflicts of interest raised by the federal government leasing him the Trump Hotel.

That’s when Trump installed a lackey allied with Tea Party Republican Mick Mulvaney named Emily Webster Murphy as GSA administrator, effectively becoming his own landlord whereupon the agency declined to enforce the lease provisions preventing any federal government employee from conducting business with the government.

Trump’s Republican spin machine, lawyers, and his flacks at Fox News are blowing apoplectic wind in the wake of revelations that Mueller may have just learned the unvarnished truth about the Trump Transition team.

But Mueller’s surprising public retort confirms not only the integrity of the process but highlights the potentially significant importance of these emails to his criminal investigation of the Trump Transition Team.
