Earlier this afternoon, President Trump horrified the nation when he decided to use a racial slur offensive to Native Americans to denigrate a sitting United States Senator while ostensibly honoring veteran Najavo Code Talkers who served our nation in World War II.
“We have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas. But you know what, I like you” said the racist reality television star, well aware of what he was doing and what kind of a response he would inspire in his white supremacist fans.
Respected journalist Ruth Hopkins of Indian Country Today and The Last Real Indians, well known for her outstanding coverage of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests, took to Twitter to set the record straight:
Pocahontas was a pre-teen who was kidnapped, held hostage & raped by European invaders. Stop using her name as a racial slur & how dare you insult these brave Native men who risked their lives for this country. https://t.co/FVMCoYo0Oj

Not to mention, these men are Navajo (Dine) and Pocahontas was from the Pamunkey tribe. Two entirely different Native nations.

By the way, Trump is insulting these Native veterans in front of a portrait of Andrew Jackson, who was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Natives by way of the Indian Removal Act & the Trail of Tears. He & his men made horse reins from Native skin.

The crimes of past Americans against the native inhabitants of this land can never be forgiven or atoned for; the absolute minimum that Trump could do is accord the Navajo Code Talkers the same respect that he does to white veterans – but the watching eyes of genocidal monster Andrew Jackson tells you everything you need to know about how Donald Trump feels about America’s persecuted minorities.
