Donald Trump just can’t get out of campaign mode. While some people in the country foolishly expected him to start governing and acting presidential after the election was over, Trump has continued to act as if he didn’t already win the electoral vote.
Perhaps it’s an insecurity driven by the same impulse that had him create a special commission to investigate the “massive” voter fraud that he claims cost him the popular vote, but he doesn’t seem to be able to just put the election behind him, as demonstrated in his latest tweet this morning.
Crooked Hillary Clinton is the worst (and biggest) loser of all time. She just can’t stop, which is so good for the Republican Party. Hillary, get on with your life and give it another try in three years!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 18, 2017
Besides being another completely factually incorrect statement, or in other words, another one of Trump’s many, many, many lies, the President’s tweet demonstrates how difficult it is for him to share a news cycle with his former opponent, whom he seems to think is still his current opponent, even though he’s not running in an election at the moment.
Hillary was certainly not the worst and biggest loser of all time. Firstly, she conceded an election that had results that were questionable at best, given the findings by multiple federal intelligence agencies that the Russians interfered in the election, not just with propaganda bots on social media, but by actually hacking state election boards, altering voter rolls and stealing private data.
Plus, she won the popular vote! More people voted for Hillary Clinton than for you Mr. Trump! That makes you the loser Mr. “President”, except for that pesky and unfair historical anomaly called the electoral college.
Even if you go by the electoral college vote, there is no way anyone could call Clinton’s margin of defeat (227 electoral votes vs. Trump’s 304) the biggest in presidential election history. That distinction belongs to Republican Alf Landon who won 8 electoral votes to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s 523 electoral votes in 1936.
So President Trump, get on with your life, stop complaining about Hillary Clinton, and try to learn to do your job. And whatever you do, do NOT “give it another try in three years!”
