First Openly Trans Rep Just Broke The Internet Diagnosing Trump’s Republican Party

Danica Roem, the nation’s first openly transgender state legislator and newest representative to the 13th District in Virginia’s House of Delegates, took to Twitter today in a scathing thread against continued Republican efforts to defame her.

While Roem ran a substantive, issue-based campaign, Republicans were obstinate in their efforts to spin the race into a referendum on her transgender identity. The fact that Roem soundly defeated a 13-term conservative Republican incumbent who refused to debate her and even went so far as to refer to her using male pronouns is a testament to just how glaringly unsuccessful those tactics turned out to be.

Republicans are learning the hard way that Trump’s failed tactics of fear mongering and divisiveness will not only lose elections, but have the power to unseat sitting Republicans in otherwise traditionally heavily-conservative districts.

Republicans should leave the schoolyard bullying at home if they plan on winning any elections in the future and take the free advice from Roem:
